Golden Gala: 59 great medals in the women high jump

The women’s high jump features the most prestigious field of the entire programme of the 2015 Golden Gala Pietro Mennea on Thursday 4th June in the Olympic Stadium where Stefka set the still-standing world record with 2.09m 28 years ago. The line-up features the impressive figure of 59 athletes who won international medals at senior and junior level. The line-up features the come-back of Blanka Vlasic who cleared 2.00 metres more than 100 times, this year’s European Indoor silver medallist Alessia Trost, who will clash against her junior and youth rival Mariya Kuchina, who cleared 1.95 in her debut last week. The list of big stars continues with the Olympic champion Anna Chicherova, world champion Setlana Shkolina, European champion Ruth Beitia, reigning World Indoor champion Kamila Lichwinko (WL 1,97). It would not be possible to ask for more. It’s expected that the first two metres barrier of the outdoor season will be broken. Three athletes Hestrie Cloete, Yelena Slesarenko and Blanka Vlasic jointly hold the meeting record with 2.03m.
